The Dungeon — horror escape room by Unlock Escape in Munich's old town

The rooms that fit

The fear scale: four rooms, four levels

  • Dungeon — 18+, old town: medieval horror with strong shock elements, a dark atmosphere and acoustic and visual stimuli. The year 1073, sentenced to death in the hunger tower, the only way out leads through the torture chamber. 2 to 6 people, level 3.5. Since it opened in July 2025, 8 whole groups and 17 individuals have bailed out early.
  • Taphephobia — 16+, old town: psychological thriller. A serial killer locks you into coffins alive and watches every move — thrills rather than shocks, with effects that get under your skin. Two or four players only, level 4.
  • The Cave of Death — 14+, Bogenhausen: survival horror. You wake up in a cold store, and the serial killer is coming back. 2 to 4 people, level 3 — from 12 when accompanied by an adult.
  • The Witch — 8+, Bogenhausen: family scares. A lonely hut, strange potions, the witch is coming back soon. Level 2 — scary enough for kids, harmless enough for parents.

Dungeon: the room not every group finishes

The Dungeon is the only room we run strictly 18+ — no exceptions, not even accompanied. It is not suitable for pregnant women, people with cardiovascular conditions, epilepsy, anxiety disorders or a tendency to panic attacks. If you read that and still book, you know what you're in for: the bail-out numbers speak for themselves: 8 whole groups have given up since July 2025, and 17 individuals left early.

You can stop at any time. A word to the game master and the door opens — for one person or for everyone. So far 17 individuals have left early while the rest of their group carried on.

What "horror" means with us — and what it doesn't

Nothing in the room needs to be forced, nobody touches you, and the door can always be opened. The fear comes from darkness, sounds, confinement and what you find — not from violence. The game master watches the room for the whole hour and steps in before thrill turns into panic. And yes: there are still puzzles. If you just want to scream, the cinema is a better place.

Horror for two or with the whole group

For two, Taphephobia is the most intense room — it was built for two or four people, and it doesn't get tighter than that. The Dungeon takes up to six people, The Cave of Death four. Mixed groups split up: the horror fans into the Dungeon, the others into Seven Kingdoms — both in the old town, starting no more than 30 minutes apart. In the old town we play until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays; the late slots are the most popular for the horror rooms.

At Halloween the weekends before 31 October usually go first — if you want the Dungeon then, book two to three weeks ahead.

A gift waits at the end

Every mission you play comes with a small gift for your team, handed over on site — we won't say what it is. Only this much: it fits in a pocket, and once you have one, you'll want the next.
