School holidays in Munich — play indoors when it's too hot or too wet outside
Six weeks of summer holidays, two at Whitsun, plus autumn and half term: at some point the English Garden is done and the outdoor pool is too full. An hour in an escape room is a holiday programme kids do not experience as a programme — they only notice afterwards that they spent an hour working together.
What works from which age
- From age 8: The Witch and The Chinese Box, both in Bogenhausen, level 2 and 3.5, comfortably doable in 60 minutes. The Witch is fairy-tale spooky, the Schatulle completely free of scares and wheelchair accessible.
- From age 14: The Castle Cell (level 4.5) and Die Todeshöhle (level 3) in Bogenhausen, Seven Kingdoms (level 5) in the old town. From 12 when accompanied by an adult.
- From 16 and 18: Taphephobia and the Dungeon — both horror, both explicitly not for holiday groups with younger kids.
Up to age 11 an adult plays along in the room and counts towards the group size. From 12 to 15 kids may play on their own with a parental consent form; in rooms rated 14+ only from 14, and 12 and 13-year-olds play there with an adult in the room. Groups of children and teens may bring one more player as long as no more than one person is 16 or older: The Witch up to 6, The Chinese Box up to 8.
A game master is on the radio the whole hour and helps before anyone gets frustrated — with children's groups that is the single most important point, and the reason nobody sits in front of the same puzzle for an hour.
Indoors, whatever the weather
On the day Munich hits 34 degrees, that is not a footnote. Both locations are entirely indoors, and The Cave of Death and The Chinese Box are air-conditioned; the slot is fixed weeks ahead and depends on no forecast. The same applies in autumn, when it gets dark at four and the alternative is television.
If the weather is good after all, there is the opposite option: at the Wagon Game Show run by our partner One Hour Left you pull a wagon full of buzzers and game gear into the park and compete in nine mini-games for three hours — 4 to 12 people per wagon, two wagons in parallel for larger groups, with a separate kids version. The wagons book out fast during the holidays, so ask early.
Three hours outdoors: the Wagon Game Show
Not every holiday day belongs indoors. For outside there is the counterpart: a handcart as your base, nine mini games, around three hours in the park.
What matters for the holidays: there is a dedicated version for kids — age-appropriate tasks, wins the team can feel, and nothing for the parents to prepare. A game master stays with you throughout.
- 4 to 12 kids per wagon, with a second wagon for bigger groups.
- €280 per wagon — with twelve that is around €23 a head for half a holiday day.
- Start times 10:00, 13:30 and 17:00, pick-up at Jägerweg 10 in Ottobrunn.
A holiday day can also combine both: the park in the morning, the escape room in the afternoon — or the other way round when outside only becomes bearable in the evening.
Several kids, several rooms
When the holiday group grows — neighbours' kids, cousins, half a class — it spreads across several rooms starting no more than 30 minutes apart: up to 23 people in Bogenhausen — up to 27 for groups of children and teens — and up to 17 in the old town. Everyone plays separately and compares times afterwards. For children that is exactly the part that sticks.

What a holiday slot costs
The price is per team: €88 for two, €114 for three, €136 for four, €150 for five, €168 for six, €182 for seven. With seven that is €26 per person. The accompanying adult for children up to 11 counts as a player, and there are no surcharges for holidays, weekends or evenings.
Students save €5 per valid ID shown. Classes, after-school groups and holiday clubs get a group rate on request, with quote and invoice going to the institution — more on the page for school classes.
When to book
During the holidays afternoons are the most sought-after slots, especially when it rains — then the calendar fills within hours. If you prefer it quieter, take a morning slot.
Plan one to two weeks ahead for a fixed holiday slot, three to four for groups of twelve or more. The online calendar shows live availability for both locations.
A gift waits at the end
Every mission you play comes with a small gift for your team, handed over on site — we won't say what it is. Only this much: it fits in a pocket, and once you have one, you'll want the next.
